At the Clinical Education Academy, we are proud to introduce our dedicated team of professionals committed to shaping the future of clinical education. With a shared passion for fostering excellence in healthcare training, our team brings together a range of expertise and experience.

Dr Pippa Skippage FRCR FRCP PGDip

Consultant Radiologist & Director Clinical Education

Dr Pippa Skippage is currently working as the Director of Clinical Education at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust where she also works as a Consultant Radiologist. Her role encompasses training & education for all clinical learners in the Trust including nursing & midwifery staff, doctors, AHPs & pharmacists. Her role includes working as part of the Medical Directors Office as Associate Medical Director for Education. This ensures that Education & Training maintains a high profile within the Trust and has good representation at Board Level.

She has previously held roles as TPD & Head of School for Radiology in KSS overseeing the development of a KSS wide Radiology training scheme. She is still active in “shop floor” education delivering teaching sessions to non-Radiology juniors, supporting Radiology trainees in their exam preparation & being an Educational Supervisor. 

Outside of work you can either find her in her VW Campervan or in a spa with a glass of champagne!

Sharon Burfield MSc BSc (Hons) RN

Deputy Director of Clinical Education & Practice Development

With a career spanning over 23 years within the NHS, Sharon Burfield is currently serving as the Deputy Director for Clinical Education and Practice Development at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Sharon is a registered nurse who holds an MSc in advanced practice, a PGCert in education, and a BSc (Hons) in nursing. Her career trajectory has included a stint in the commercial sector, as well as senior clinical education roles at Kings College Hospital, and Guys and St Thomas’.

In her present capacity, she leads a dynamic team responsible for delivering clinical education to diverse professional groups. Her strategic collaboration with colleagues and external partners reflects her ambition to set the highest standards of education across the board.

Sharon is deeply passionate about staff wellbeing, fostering engagement, and championing the welfare of the healthcare workforce. She aims to elevate the standards of education, care, and support within the healthcare community.

Kathryn Tolfree BSc DipTropNurse PGcert RN FHEA

Workforce Development Lead & Clinical Education Academy Lead

Kat Tolfree is the Workforce Development Lead at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. As a senior nurse with 17 years’ experience Kat leads on various education workstreams within the organisation, and out across the region. Kat is committed to leading an outstanding clinical education team and seeks opportunities for continuous improvement and development of the service.

As an education specialist Kat has completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and fellowship with the Higher Education Academy, alongside a degree in Adult Nursing and a Diploma in Tropical Nursing. In addition, Kat is the incumbent chair of the UK Clinical Nurse Educator Network. Kat is passionate about the value and importance of clinical nurse educator roles and has a particular is interested in the transition into specialist education roles.

Wendy Cheeseman , BSc, PG Dip Diabetes, PG Dip Risk Management, PG Cert Ed, RN

Continuing Professional Development Lead & Clinical Education Academy Lead

With a career as a registered nurse spanning over 30 years within the NHS, Wendy Cheeseman is currently working as the Senior Matron for Clinical Education and Practice Development at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Wendy holds a BSc (Hons) in District Nursing, Community Independent Prescribing, Diplomas in Diabetes Care and Risk Management and is a qualified Professional Nurse Advocate. Her career has included roles as a District Nurse, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Deputy Head of Patient Safety and she has also held several clinical education roles.

In her present capacity she is responsible for leading continuing professional development (CPD) for registered nurses, midwives and AHP. Wendy is committed to ensuring healthcare professionals are supported to in their development and enhancement of skills and knowledge, ultimately benefiting patient care.

Ernie Santos BSc

FHFT Business Manager

Ernie has a career foundation in retail spanning six years, before transitioning to healthcare, where he flourished as a dedicated care assistant before assuming the role of a senior administrator. His journey reflects adaptability and commitment to diverse professional challenges.

Beyond his career, he is fuelled by a fervent passion for storytelling and content creation. Whether it’s crafting narratives or developing engaging content, he finds joy in bringing ideas to life. This passion has not only enhanced his professional skill set but also underscores his belief in the power of effective communication. As he continues to evolve in his career, he aspires to merge business administrative expertise with creative drive, contributing meaningfully to both spheres.

Sana Shahid

Sana Shahid MSC BBA Hons

Senior Programme Co-Ordinator

Sana had been working for the development sector before she received immense personal care from various touchpoints of National Health Services and decided to serve back. She brings a robust skill set of Management & Operations and has executed all the roles with great camaraderie and commendable integrity.

Furthermore, she is passionate about serving communities. She has profound understanding of diverse workforce mindsets. She is dedicated to raising healthcare standards across the globe always striving to make this world a better place through care, compassion, and empathy.

With a rich background in both the development sector and healthcare, Sana leverages her experience to drive impactful initiatives. Her commitment to excellence and her empathetic approach makes her an asset to any team or organisation she is part of.
